Admission to programs in classics are administered through The Graduate Center Office of Admissions. General guidelines and requirements, as well as information about obtaining an application, are listed on their website.
Applicants to classics graduate programs should have, or anticipate having, a bachelor’s degree and a working knowledge of both Latin and Greek. Students with competence in only one of the languages can be admitted on the condition that they enroll in the Basic Program of the missing language at the Latin/Greek Institute the summer before the start of their first semester and receive a strong recommendation from the Institute Director. A classics major and the ability to read modern European languages are advantageous, but not required. Applications should be made through the Graduate Center Admissions Office, but writing samples, preferably a research paper on a classical subject, may be sent directly to the Program Office. A writing sample, preferably a research paper in classics, is required.
Tuition: New York State Residents: $2,435 per semester; Others: $475 per credit.
To be eligible for Chancellor's, Gilleece and Magnet Fellowships and other forms of financial aid, applications should be made by February 1st.
