Areas of Interest

Modern Drama and American, French, Italian feminist theory, in particular the ways in which identity, gender, social, and other, might clash with the living subject. From the transgendered person to the housewife and mother, identity is a science of inexactitude. And the only thing that I find is
hard-wired is the number of theories attempting to essentialize and justify the minefield of identity politics. Therein, I found in the writing stage of my dissertation, entitled Maternal Instincts of the 20 th century: an operation in progress, which addresses the host of behaviors and characteristics by which the word ‘maternal’ can be defined in addition to articulating the stakes in the game of aligning the notion of morality and the maternal. Among the texts included are: Morrison’s Beloved, Lorde’s Zami, Winterson’s Sexing the Cherry, and Finch’s White Oleander.
