I am interested in the theorizing of space, time, and progress in the avant-garde movements. I've written about the theater and about contemporary poetry, and have worked as an editor and curator of contemporary poetry from Eastern Europe. My scholarship and translation has been most concentrated on the OBERIU writers (Leningrad 1920s-30s) and especially on Daniil Kharms. I have taught courses (conducted in Russian and in English) on various aspects and periods of Russian literature and culture, from Derzhavin to Gogol to the Silver Age and contemporary fiction; as well as courses in the Russian language, creative writing, and composition. My own writing and translations have appeared in literary journals such as A Public Space, Fence, New American Writing, PAJ, Open City, and many others. My translations and co-translations have been published or are forthcoming in books from Northwestern University Press, Green Integer, and Overlook. Areas
