About the GSUC18
The 18th-Century Group of the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, otherwise known as the Graducate School and Uiversity Center, was founded
by Nora Nachumi (Dr. Nachumi is now Assistant Professor of English at Stern College of the Yeshiva University) and Chris Fanning (Dr. Fanning is Assistant Professor of English at
the Queen's College in Canada). The Group is primarily a casual seminar or salon, at which established scholars like
Jonathan Lamb and Michael McKeon, junior scholars, and graduate
students present works-in-progress and discuss the art, drama,
literature, history, and philosophy of the long eighteenth century. We meet on the second Friday of every month during the school semesters.
In 1998, the 18th-Century Group sponsored an interdisciplinary conference at the CUNY
Graduate School entitled "Eighteenth-Century Revolutions."
Participants included Derek Hughes, Judith Milhous, Blanford Parker,
Betty Rizzo, Janet Todd, Michael Warner, and Randy Trumbach.
