PROFESSOR WILLIAM KORNBLUM Professor William Kornblum (Sociology/Psychology, GC) has a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He teaches and conducts research in urban and community studies and social ecology. He is currently working on a number of research projects, including a study of union democracy in the Chicago laborers union and a multi-national interdisciplinary study of coastal estuaries and urbanization in the Western Hemisphere. His recent books include At Sea In The City: A Personal Journey Through the Waters of New York City (Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 2001); Public Use of Urban Public Space: Methods for Practitioners (The Urban Institute and the Lila Wallace Foundation, 2001); (with Helen Birnbaum) Project TELL: Telecommunications for Learning (International Institute for Educational Planning, UNESCO, 1999) a monograph in the series: Strategies of education and training for disadvantaged groups;Among his articles and essays are "Cape Cod: Challenges of Managed Urbanization," chapter in National Parks and Rural Development in the United States, Field, Donald and Machlis, Gary (eds.), Island Press, 2000; (with Terry Williams) "Public Housing Projects as Successful Environments for Adolescent Development" in The Anthropology of Lower Income Urban Enclaves (New York: Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, V. 749, 1995 pps 137-152);"Chicago: Entre Race et Classe" in L'Homme et La Societe, no. 117-118, 1995, pps. 129-143.
