Benefits
The following benefits are available to Part-time Civil Service Employees who meet eligibility requirements:
All Part-time Civil Service Employees may join the NYC Employees' Retirement System. (NYCERS). Contact the Office of Human Resources for applications.
Fringe Benefits
Fringe benefits are available if the employee consistently works a minimum of 17 hours per week. Included are dental, optical, prescription drug plans, disability, podiatry and audiology benefits through the District council 37 (DC37) Welfare Fund. These benefits begin on the date of employment after a DC 37 Health & Security Plan enrollment card is submitted. Part-time Civil Service Employees pay union dues on a bi-weekly basis. The current rate is available in the Office of Human Resources or the Payroll Office for the current rate.
Evaluations
Evaluations are done on a quarterly basis during the probationary period. Thereafter, evaluations are done annually. Special evaluations may be done at any time.
Time reports are done on a weekly basis. Employees should notify the Office of Human Resources when they will be late or out from work. Use of annual leave requires prior approval by the supervisor.
Payroll
Part-time Civil Service Employees are paid bi-weekly on Thursdays. Checks are issued on the preceding Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m. Direct deposit is available after six months of continuous employment.
Other benefits available to Part-time Civil Service Employees include:
Annual leave: 1st year = 1 hour for every 15 hours worked.
5th year = 1 hour for every 11 hours worked.
Sick Leave: 1 hour for every 20 hours worked
Tuition Reimbursement
Eligible DC 37 members can receive tuition reimbursement when enrolled in an accredited college, university or registered institution. The Education Fund reimburses for courses on an undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level. Presently, members may apply for reimbursement of $700 per year for a maximum of $350 per semester for tuition that is not reimbursed through other forms of assistance. http://www.dc37.net/benefits/education/offerings/tuition.html
To be eligible, a member must:
- Be a College Assistant or Sign Language Interpreter who work a minimum of 17 hours per week are covered.
- Be employed at least 90 days prior to the first day of classes, and remain in a covered title for the term.
- Receive course credit towards a degree in a college or university accredited by the Middle States Association of College and Secondary Schools (life experience, independent study and dissertation credits are not reimbursable).
- For college credit classes, receive a grade of "C" or better.
Tuition Waiver
CUNY employees and Adjuncts who meet eligibility criteria may apply for a waiver of tuition fees within The City University of New York. Service requirements needed to be eligible for waivers differ by title. Click here for tuition waiver procedures, eligibility requirements and forms.
COBRA Benefits
Upon separation from The Graduate Center, Part-time Civil Service Employees are eligible for COBRA. COBRA packages and rates are available in the Office of Human Resources.
Identification Card
Identification Cards serve as official CUNY identification, may be used in the Mina Rees Library and in the Information Resources department.
Breaks
Coffee breaks may be scheduled for 20-minutes between 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., when office conditions permit them.
