Description:

The Associate Director works closely with the Director of Human Resources and Assistant Vice President for Faculty and Staff Relations in implementing and evaluating on-going HR policies, programs, functions and activities. The Associate Director assists in administering all employment policies and procedures, handling employee relations and performance management issues.

The principal responsibilities are:

    • Assist the Director of Human Resources in the day-to-day operation of the Human Resources Office.
    • Manage all human resources functions for the Graduate Assistant B, Honors College Technology Fellows, Graduate Teaching Fellowship and CUNY Writing Fellow programs including orientations, contract provisions, appointments, reappointments, evaluations, observations, employment verifications; investigates and resolves workload and pay issues; and manages records.
    • Liaison with the Associate Provost and develops OHR’s role in orientation workshops.
    • Manage the office and supervise staff in the absence of the Assistant Vice President of Faculty and Staff Relations and the Director of Human Resources.
    • Direct the appointment process and workload assessment for part time instructional staff.
    • Research and advise the Assistant Vice President on J-1, H-1, TN and O-1 immigration questions and coordinate the Exchange Visitor Program including orientations. Serve as the Alternate Responsible Officer for the Exchange Visitor Program. Consult with international faculty and Staff.
    • Assist the Director of Human Resources in new policy development and procedures and in communicating those policies and procedures to others.
    • Conduct labor relations investigations and disciplinary Step One cases for classified service, Graduate Assistants and part-time staff.
    • Manages various appointment and recruitment activities including pre-employment skills assessment, including troubleshooting and maintenance of testing software.
    • Supervise the Coordinator for Part-time Staff and a CUNY Office Assistant.
    • Oversee the reorganization, updating and automation of Human Resources records management and retrieval.
    • Review and monitor all New York State Criminal History (Rap Sheets). Make recommendations for follow-up when appropriate.
    • Serve on OHR Data Committee. Assist in HR system development, planning and maintenance.
    • Resolve and advise the Director of Human Resources on payroll issues and non-immigrant taxation.
    • Assist the Assistant Vice President and Director in special projects.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree and at least 6 years of related work experience required. Highly organized self-starter with good analytic skills capable of working in a fast paced office. Excellent written and verbal skills required. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, databases, email required. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience required; knowledge of SCT Banner, CUNY’s College University Personnel System (CUPS), ACCESS, web page and internet management preferred. Experience managing Human Resources in an Oracle/People Soft environment a plus. Experience in Human Resources or Higher Education preferred.

Salary Range: $67,092 - $80,020 commensurate with qualifications and experience
