Description
Depending upon the candidate’s rank at appointment, the professor will be responsible for teaching between two and four courses per year at The Graduate Center with the possibility of teaching one course per year at one of the undergraduate colleges in the CUNY system. Courses will be determined in consultation with the Executive Officer of the Ph.D. program in Art History, but to focus primarily on the arts of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in several of the following geographic regions: North America, Latin America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia, or Africa.
The faculty member will be responsible for, in addition to teaching lecture courses and seminars, advising independent studies and doctoral dissertations, serving on oral examination committees in the field of expertise, and on faculty committees at the direction of the Executive Officer, including (but not limited to), First (Written) Exam Committee in the field of concentration, Comprehensive Examination Committee, and Foreign Language Examination committees as appropriate.
The faculty member will maintain a record of ongoing scholarly activity in the form of publications, museum and/or gallery exhibitions, critical writing. S/He will also be expected to participate in the discipline at a national level and to represent The Graduate Center at scholarly conferences and symposia.
Qualifications:
The position requires a Ph.D. or its equivalent, experience in graduate-level teaching in Art History, a record of significant publications in the field, supervision of doctoral students, and a substantial reputation in the field of contemporary art. A distinguished candidate of substantial merit or accomplishment in the field who has an international reputation as a scholar may be nominated as a Distinguished Professor, with an annual salary supplement.
Salary Range:
- -Rank and Salary commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments
- -Tenure Track; Appointment Beginning Fall 2008
- -FLSA Status - Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation
