Description:

Ph.D. Program in Art History, CUNY Graduate Center seeks a specialist in contemporary art of an area other than Western Europe or North America (although Native American contemporary art would be an acceptable field), with a secondary expertise in the traditional arts of her/his area of specialty. Preferred areas of concentration included Asian, African, or Latin American art.

Depending upon the candidate’s rank at appointment, s/he will be responsible for teaching between two and four courses per year at the Graduate Center, one of which may be given at one of the undergraduate colleges in the CUNY system. The faculty member will act as an advisor to graduate students in a large and diverse graduate program, serve on oral examination and dissertation committees, and participate in the life of the program and Graduate Center.

The faculty member will be expected to maintain a record of ongoing scholarly activity in the form of publications, museum and/or gallery exhibitions, or critical writing. S/he will also be expected to participate in the discipline at a national level and to represent the Graduate Center at scholarly conferences and symposia.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D., a record of significant academic publications and achievement; experience in graduate-level teaching in Art History; supervision of doctoral students; and a substantial reputation in the field of contemporary art. Rank will depend on level of qualifications. A distinguished candidate of substantial merit or accomplishment in the field who has an international reputation as a scholar may be nominated as a Distinguished Professor, with an annual salary supplement.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
