Expectations of Professionalism
    Job Interaction and Growth
  • Know and understand your role and responsibilities and the responsibilities of others in the department.
  • Understand your role in promoting student success: including but not limited to smart rooms, events, labs, registration, graduation, etc.
  • Engage in professional development that enables you to grow professionally and effectively perform your job.
  • Take the lead in adopting a progressive mind-set by embracing new technology in your own work and promoting it to others.

    Communication
  • When action is required outside of your area of expertise, promptly and patiently redirect the request to the proper person.
  • Respond in a timely manner to email and/or voicemail requests.
  • If email communication is not effectively resolving the issue, use another means of communication, e.g., voicemail, phone call, in-person visit or hard copy interoffice memo.
  • When co-workers are involved in a project, communicate clearly to the appropriate staff that your part is completed so that they may move forward with the project.
  • Listen attentively before responding; avoid interrupting and repeat the request to ensure clarity.
  • Be aware of your own body language, and be sensitive to the body language of those whom you are communicating.

    Professional Conduct
  • There is no second chance to make a first impression.
  • Be pleasant and positive. Smile.
  • Be willing to lead and to work together to cross the tech divide.
  • Accept accountability, for yourself, to co-workers in IT and other college personnel and students.

    Service Oriented
  • Be service oriented – recognize the importance of each contact.
  • Promptly acknowledge requests for service. Offer to find a resolution.
  • Point personnel in the right direction and follow up when appropriate.
  • Be responsive to users' needs by providing user-friendly systems.
  • Reassure people that you will assist them through the duration of an issue or project until it is resolved or completed to their satisfaction.

    Personal Conduct
  • “The Goodwill Guide” - In all personal contacts, be patient and empathetic. Treat others with respect and acknowledge divergent opinions.
  • Be considerate of personal property and space.
  • Follow “The Goodwill Guide” with promptness, politeness and honesty. Follow through and follow-up.
  • Develop relationships; forgive mistakes. Use phrases like thank you, I’m sorry, you’re welcome.
  • Be trustworthy and honest in all aspects of professional conduct regarding policies, procedures and everyday college life.

    Confidentiality
  • Respect the confidentiality of information to which you have access.
  • Refrain from viewing confidential information that is not required to perform your job.
  • Upon completion of a project, destroy all confidential test data.
