Administrative Services - Student Tech Fee

CUNY Student Technology Fee

On February 25, 2003 the Board of trustees of the City University of New York voted unanimously to establish a new Student Technology Fee. The action of the board established general guidelines for the use of the fee and guaranteed that the proceeds from the fee would revert directly to the campuses where they were generated. Executive Vice Chancellor Mirror then charged each campus to form a planning group that included student participants, to report the plans for using the proceeds of the fee.

At the Graduate Center, the following guidelines were adopted:

The general objectives for the use of the Student Technology Fee serve as guiding principles for the long-term administration of the fund and prioritizing of projects.

  • Projects or services funded by the Student Technology Fee should unambiguously provide direct value to students of The Graduate Center.
  • Projects or services that are available to all Graduate Center students should generally have priority over those that serve distinct groups. This prioritization should include consideration of cases where groups or programs may have special essential requirements. The fundamental criteria for evaluating these special cases is the academic merit of the project and the degree to which it further prepares the students involved for successful careers in their disciplines.
  • The limited enrollment of The Graduate Center restricts the size of the Student Technology Fee fund. To make most effective use of the fund resources, supplemental or match funds from other sources should be sought to leverage projects or services.
