Coping with success and failure - as a graduate student and beyond
Christina Tortora (CUNY Graduate Center)
September 29, 2005 (Thursday)
4:15 PM - 6:00 PM; Room 6417, the CUNY Graduate Center
Have you noticed that there are psychological stresses involved in being a student, researcher, and teacher? You are not alone! Aiming for high standards can cause anxieties, big and small, that are better shared.
Come and participate in a round-table discussion, moderated by Christina Tortora, on questions such as the following:
Do you over-react to criticism or rejection?
- Is it embarrassing to keep re-applying year after year for that scholarship or grant?
- If you are not satisfied with the paper you're working on, is it better to persist or to shift to a different project?
- Is it better to let an audience know if you're not confident about what you're presenting, or to keep it to yourself?
- Are you waiting for that magical moment when you know you're a linguist?
