Alfred Farag, leading Egyptian playwright, born 1929. He was granted the gold medal from the Supreme Council of Arts and Literature for his first one-act play, Egypt's Voice. He received the National Award for Playwriting in 1965 and the Science and Arts Medal in 1967. Among his many plays, probably the best known internationally is The Caravan (1968).

Lenin El-Ramley, leading Egyptian playwright, born 1945, has successfully written for TV and cinema, as well as the theatre. Twenty-eight of his plays have been produced in most of the country's theatres. Probably his best known play internationally is In Plain Arabic (1991).

Gamal Abdel Maqsoud, leading Egyptian playwright, born 1942, is currently finishing his Ph.D. in the Department of English at Cairo University. He began his literary career as a short story writer, publishing his first one-act play in 1967. His best known play internationally is probably The Man Who Ate a Goose (1990).
