Benito Ortolani is professor emeritus of Brooklyn College, City University of New York. Major publications include The Japanese Theatre (E.J. Brill, 1990, 1990, rev. ed. Princeton University Press, 1995), Pirandello's Love Letters to Marta Abba (editor and translator, Princeton University Press, 1994), and Das Kabukitheater, Kulturgeschichte der Anfaenge (Sophia University Press, 1964). He is founder and editor of the International Bibliography of Theatre (Theatre Research Data Center, 1982-1997, 10 volumes covering 1982-1995).
