THE EDWIN BOOTH AWARD CEREMONY Presented by the Doctoral Theatre Students Association of CUNY Honoring HERE art center HERE Art Center is one of New York's most prolific producing organizations, and it stands at the forefront of the city's presenters of daring new hybrid art. HERE has developed such acclaimed works as Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues; Basil Twist's Symphonie Fantastique; Hazelle Goodman's On Edge; Trey Lyford and Geoff Sobelle's all wear bowlers; and original musical and dance works created and directed by Kristin Marting. The New York Times has called HERE "one of the most unusual arts spaces in New York and possibly the model for the cutting-edge arts spaces of tomorrow.” Over the last 12 years, HERE and the work presented at HERE have garnered 10 OBIE awards, an OBIE grant for artistic achievement, two Berrilla Kerr awards, two New York Innovative Theatre Awards, and nominations for both Pulitzer and Drama Desk awards. Kristin Marting is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of HERE Art Center. The Edwin Booth Award was established in 1983 by the Doctoral Theatre Students Association to honor a person, organization, or company in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the New York City/American Theatre and Performance Community. Only students of the program nominate candidates and elect recipients. Named after the nineteenth-century actor who was also renowned for his intellect, the award promotes integration of the professional and academic theatre communities.
