DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid

Paul D. Miller known by his stage name DJ Spooky, That Subliminal Kid is an electronic and experimental hip hop musician. He is a turntablist, a producer, an author and a postmodern intellectual. In addition to his career as a musician, DJ Spooky has created a number of large-scale multimedia performances for the stage. Rebirth of a Nation was commissioned in 2004 by the Lincoln Center Festival; Spoleto Festival USA; Wiener Festwochen; and the Festival d'Automne a Paris and since its premiere has toured to venues around the world, from the Sydney Festival to the Herod Atticus Amphitheater, and been performed more than fifty times. The DVD version of Rebirth of a Nation was released by Anchor Bay Films/Starz Media in late 2008. The piece Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica was commissioned by BAM for the 2009 Next Wave Festival; the Hopkins Center for the Arts/Dartmouth College; UCSB Arts & Lectures; Melbourne International Arts Festival; and the Festival dei 2 Mondi in Spoleto, Italy and is currently touring. Terra Nova is based on source materials collected during a studio trip to the main ice fields of Antarctica and serves as a portrait of that rapidly transforming continent.
