Nina Beier
COMPLETE WORKS (2009/2011)
A work for a dancer at the end of his or her career, in which they try to remember every dance move they have ever learnt, in chronological order.
“In this commingling of memory, Beier not only exposes the deficiency of representation to repeat the past ‘as it really was’, but also shows that any present action is stratified by a network of immaterial images that are both memories and simulations. The dancer’s gestural transmissions offer only traces of missing narratives (from both the productions and the dancer’s experience), allowing the viewers to enact a similar process of recollection.”
