Announcements: Examinations
 

Language Examination: The Spring 2008 language examinations will be on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 beginning at 10am. The Spring language examinations will be Wednesday, February 18, 2009 and Thursday, April 30, 2009 beginning at 10 am. Students should sign up well in advance (at least one week to ten days).  The exams will be administered by Professors Anson-Cartwright and Saloman. First Examination Part A: Part A of the First Examination will be given in the Fall on Friday, August 22, 2009 and in the Spring on Friday, January 23, 2009 10am-1pm. This exam is required of all Ph.D. and DMA-Composition students who entered the program with only a bachelor's degree and should be taken at or before the 30-credit mark and must be passed by the 45-credit mark. Students who plan to take the exam should have signed up for it six weeks before the exam date. (You can contact Peg Rivers to sign up).  Guidelines for first examination

Musicianship Exam
for Theory Students: (Formerly Part C of the First Examination) will be given in the   in the Fall on Saturday, September 27, 2008, 10am, and in the Spring on  Saturday, February 21, 2009, 10am.  Students should sign up for a time slot no later than 3 weeks before the exam date.  (You can contact Peg Rivers to sign up). This examination is required of all theory/analysis students and must be taken if necessary each semester until it is passed. Prof. Rothstein and Profs. Gagné (Fall) and Burstein (Spring) will administer the exam.
Guidelines for Musicianship Examination

Second Examination CompositionThe written examination in the Fall will be on Wednesday and Thursday, August 20 and 21, 2008. The orals will be Saturday September 6, 2008. Students must sign up for the exam before May 15, 2008 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Olan and Professor Kramer.

The written examination in the Spring will be on Wednesday and Thursday, January 21 and 22, 2009. The orals will be Saturday February 7, 2009. Students must sign up for the exam before December 1, 2008 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Olan and Professor Kramer. For the orals students must indicate their chosen composer at the time they sign up. See Music Program Student Handbook for new guidelines. Students should confer with their area adviser before specifying their special areas

Second Examination Ethnomusicology: The written examination in the Fall will be on Monday and Tuesday, August 18 and 19, 2008 The orals will be Saturday, September 6, 2008. Students must sign up for the exam before May 15, 2008 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Blum and Professor Kramer. 

The Spring written examination will be on Monday and Tuesday, January 19 and 20, 2009. The orals will be Saturday, February 7, 2009. Second Examination Musicology:  The written examination in the Fall will be on Monday and TuesdayAugust 18 and 19, 2008. The orals will be Saturday, September 6, 2008. Students must sign up for the exam before May 15, 2008 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Atlas and Professor Kramer. 

The Spring written examination will be on Monday and TuesdayJanuary 19 and 20, 2009. The orals will be Saturday, February 7, 2009. Students must sign up for the exam before December 1, 2008 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Atlas and Professor Kramer.  The names of the three required pieces will be available three weeks before the exam date; if you let Peg Rivers know ahead of time she will e-mail the names of the pieces to you that morning. For the orals students must indicate their 2 areas at the time they sign up. See Music Program Student Handbook for new guidelines. Students should confer with their area adviser before specifying their special areas.

Second Examination - DMA Performance: The Fall written examination will be on Friday, November  21, 2008; the orals will be Friday, December 5, 2008. Students must sign up for the exam before October 15, 2008 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with a copy to Professor Carey. 

The Spring written examination will be on Friday, April 24, 2009; the orals will be Friday, May 8, 2009. Students must sign up for the exam before March 15, 2009 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with a copy to Professor Carey.
