UPCOMING 2011 CONCERTS 

Unless otherwise noted, all concerts are free to students, faculty, and the public and are all held in the Elebash  Hall (ground floor of the Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue, NY NY) at 7:30pm. In addition to various recitals, the Graduate Center sponsors
the Music in Midtown series.

February

9 - Music in Midtown [1:00PM]: Chamber Music on Fifth I - Music in Midtown’s first concert of the spring series showcases chamber music performed by the brilliant and dynamic young chamber players enrolled in the Graduate Center's D.M.A. music performance program.

9 - Whitney George [8:00PM]: New music chamber orchestra, "The Cabinet", conducted and directed by Whitney George performs selections from her new opera "And Thus the Whirligig Seeks His Revenges", based on the short story "The Diamond Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant and composer-in-residence David Bridges' opera "The Lady with the Dog", based on the Anton Chekhov short story of the same title.

15 - Chad Cygan, tenor, performs works of Robert Schumann, Gabrielle Fauré, Samuel Barber, Chad Cygan and Benjamin Britten.

21 - Chamber Music An exciting evening of solo and chamber music performances by students of the Graduate Center's doctoral program in music performance.

27 - Composers Now Festival [8:00PM] - In its third year, the Composers Now Festival puts a public face on the vitality, diversity and innovations that composers bring to our communities. This concert features works by composers from the CUNY Graduate Center.

29 - Alistair MacRae, cello, performs works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Gaspar Cassadó and Frédéric Chopin.

6 - Nils Neubert, tenor, performs works of Charles Gounod, Samuel Barber, Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Charles Ives and Francesco Paolo Tosti.

8 - Music in Midtown [1:00PM]: Spring Percussion Celebration; Morris Lang and Richard O'Donnell, directors.

8 - Aaron Likness, piano performs works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Morton Feldman and Robert Schumann.

12 - Composers' Alliance [8:00PM]: A performance of new works composed by students of the Graduate Center Ph.D./D.M.A. Program in Composition.

14 - Danya Katok, soprano, performs works of Peter Sculthorpe, Maurice Ravel, Alan Louis Smith, Xavier Montsalvatge and Benjamin Britten.

20 - Joan Plana, baroque violin, performs works of Nicola Matteis, Johan Helmich Roman, Pedro Lopes Nogueira, Antonio Maria Montanari, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Georg Pisendel, Johann Sebastian Bach and Joan Plana Nadal.

22 - Music in Midtown [1:00PM]: Opera Composers in Song: A Potpourri of Delicacies. Featuring Jane Marsh, soprano and Norman Carey, piano.

22 - Karen Rostron, violin, performs works of Elliott Carter, Milton Babbitt, Arthur Kampela, Igor Stravinsky and Ross Lee Finney.

26 - Lisa Tipton, violin, performs works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Anton Webern and Johannes Brahms.


28 - Maksim Shtrykov, clarinet, with the Neos Quartet, perform works of Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johannes Brahms.


April

3 - Kristin Leitterman, oboe, performs works of Paul Hindemith, Jason Coleman,Antal Doráti and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.


5 - Music in Midtown [1:00PM]: Musical Legends. Featuring John Dalley, violin; William Frampton, viola; Peter Wiley, cello; and Anna Polonsky, piano.

5 - Gregory Williams, viola, performs works of Györgi Ligeti, Toru Takemitsu, Anthony Green and Arthur Bliss.
