Ora Frishberg Saloman (PhD, Columbia University) is a historical
musicologist whose research interests include music, and reception history of works, by
Beethoven, Gluck, Le Sueur, and Berlioz; history of opera and of music criticism;
nineteenth-century genre theories of symphony and opera; and European-American connections
in aesthetics, social history, and concert life. She served as a member of the editorial
advisory board of American Music. She was awarded a National Endowment for the
Humanities Fellowship for College Teachers, and grants from Baruch College, the Research
Foundation of CUNY, and a Fulbright Fellowship from the Institute for International
Education. She was a Visiting Scholar in Residence at Queen's University in Kingston,
Ontario, Canada.
