Association for Ethnic and Minority Issues

AEMI will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE for prospective applicants on November 11th, 2008 from 6 - 8 pm in Shepard Hall, Room 250.

AEMI (Association for Ethnic and Minority Issues) is the first student-led organization for doctoral-level trainees in the Sub-Program in Clinical Psychology at City College. Members of AEMI are devoted to discussing the impact of race, ethnicity, and culture in our personal and professional lives—from our interactions with one another in our academic community to our work as clinicians treating the diverse populations of the City College campus and of the surrounding neighborhoods of Harlem and Washington Heights.

AEMI welcomes all students. In 2006, AEMI furthered clarified our mission, generating two subgroups: one specifically designed to create a safe and supportive social network for minority students within the program, and the other to take an proactive stance in bringing the issues of race and ethnicity to the curriculum and program at large.

As part of our role as active intellectual members of the program's community, students involved with AEMI have sponsored the following activities:

  • host several general meetings and submeetings each semester open to all interested students;
  • participate in admissions process: AEMI members review student applications and appoint a representative to the Admissions Committee;
  • support the faculty in its efforts to maintain a diverse student body—a core value in our program;
  • outreach to CUNY campuses for minority student recruitment to the program;
  • support the recruitment process of a new faculty member for the 2008-2009 academic year;

For the 2007/2008 academic year, Gillian Scott, Kahlila Robinson, and Tempe Watts will serve as leaders for AEMI.
