Symposium on
The Radical History of Psychology in New York City: A Critical Examination of the 1940s – 1960s
Thursday, May 7 & 8, 2009
9.00 am--4.00 pm, followed by a reception until 6pm
Siegal Theatre, Graduate Center, City University of New York
The SP program and Participatory Action Research Collective, with colleagues from a number of Canadian universities, are thrilled to host an upcoming gathering to celebrate and examine the radical history of the discipline of psychology in NYC during the middle decades of the 20th century. This will be to be an intimate, intensive, and inspiring day; furnishing a space for a core group of invited psychologists and historians to join together for an analysis of NYC as a site where psychology and social justice have historically intersected. While some sessions will be open to the public, many will involve only this core group, as we anticipate the gathering to be fertile ground for thoughts and connections around future work into this exciting area.
More detail as to the structure of the day and which sessions will be open to the public will be announced shortly.
