Inter-University Consortium on Security and Humanitarian Action (IUCSHA)

Established in 2002, the Inter-University Consortium on Security and Humanitarian Action (IUCSHA) awarded annually competitive grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to graduate students in New York City whose dissertation field research was also useful for participating nongovernmental and UN humanitarian organizations. From 2003 to 2006, seventeen fellows from four disciplines at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, New York University, and The New School University benefited; some have completed dissertations while others are finishing them at present.

The primary activity of the IUCSHA was to provide fellowships from 2002 through 2005 of up to $10,000 to facilitate fieldwork by for graduate students from the three full-fledged members. The consortium also operated a forum for the presentation of sponsored research by Mellon Fellows.
