Simon Adams is the Executive Director of the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect and Senior Research Fellow at the CUNY Graduate Center. Prof Adams studied at the University of Witswatersrand in South Africa and at the University of New South Wales, where he received his Ph.D. He is also a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at the Harvard Business School. Professor Adams has lectured at a number of Australian, North American and African universities and was the Foundation Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Notre Dame, Australia. Professor Adams also served as Pro Vice Chancellor (International Engagement) at Monash University.

Rob Jenkins (RBIIS Associate Director) has been Professor of Political Science at Hunter College and
the CUNY Graduate Center since 2008. Prior to that he was Professor of Political Science at the
University of London. He holds a DPhil from the Institute of Development Studies at the University
of Sussex (UK) and a BA from Harvard University. Jenkins has published widely on Indian politics and
political economy; movements for democratic accountability; governance reform in developing countries;
and the politics of international economic and security assistance. Publications (list available at

International Development, the World Bank, the US Department of State, Canada’s Department of Foreign
Affairs & International Trade, the Ford Foundation, the British Academy, the UK Economic and Social
Research Council, the Carnegie Corporation, Transparency International (Norway), the Economist
Intelligence Unit, the World Economic Forum, and other organizations. Reviews and op-eds have appeared
in the Guardian, the Wall Street Journal, the Christian Science Monitor, the Economic and Political
Weekly (India), and other publications.

Eli Karetny

Eli Karetny is a PhD candidate in Political Science writing his dissertation on counterrevolutionary conceptions of freedom in the work of Leo Strauss and Isaiah Berlin. In addition to helping organize the Ralph Bunche Forum speaker series, Eli does research at the UN Archives and Records Management Section (UN ARMS) on the war-time history of the United Nations. Eli is also a Writing Fellow at Brooklyn College and he teaches political theory at Baruch College.

Nomvuyo Nolutshungu is a PhD candidate in Political Science, and Executive Assistant to the Director at the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies. Her dissertation examines the role of expertise and discourse formation in the creation of transitional justice mechanisms. In addition to her work at RBIIS, she is currently teaching in the Women and Gender studies program at Hunter College CUNY. Nomvuyo most recently worked as Project Coordinator for the International Research Network, and has served as a research assistant on a number of academic projects. Her interests include transitional justice, global governance, sexuality studies, and human rights.

Thomas G. Weiss is Presidential Professor of Political Science at The CUNY Graduate Center and
Director of the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies. Past president of the International
Studies Association (2009-10), Chair of the Academic Council on the UN System (2006-9), and editor
of Global Governance (2000-5), he has authored or edited some 45 books and 185 articles and book
chapters about multilateral approaches to international peace and security, humanitarian action, and
