The Department of Natural Sciences at Baruch College offers opportunities for doctoral work in physics and biology.
Physics: The physics faculty members constitute a very strong theoretical high energy-mathematical physics group. Areas in which doctoral students may conduct research include High Energy Physics, Quantum Chromodynamics, Heavy Ion Physics, Integrable Quantum Field Theories, Condensed Matter Systems, Solid State Physics, Mathematical Physics, Supersymmetry, String Theory, Cosmology and Laser Optics. Graduate students also have excellent opportunities to teach laboratory and recitation to undergraduates.
Biology: Faculty members’ research in Biology and Environmental Science focuses on morphology, phylogenetics, ecological modeling, ecological surveying, and the impact of human activities on natural populations. Doctoral students may design studies that utilize our well-equipped laboratories for morphological analysis, biochemical and molecular studies including DNA sequencing, and fluorescence microscopy. Opportunities for field studies are also available. Graduate students also gain experience teaching undergraduates in a discipline appropriate to their research areas.
