Hunter faculty and students are making outstanding contributions to scientific research. Recently, three faculty members in the sciences were recognized by the President of the United States for distinguished contributions. The research faculty currently includes two CUNY Distinguished Professors and three named chairs. Research is funded by NSF, NIH, NASA, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the American Cancer Society, among others.Hunter is also home to an impressive number of multi-million dollar institutional grants, including Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI), Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC), Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement/Minority Biomedical Research Support RISE/MBRS, Specialized Neuroscience Research Program (SNRP), and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Two female Nobel Laureates are Hunter graduates. The college is noted for the strength and diversity of its science faculty and a student body that includes a high percentage of women and underrepresented minorities, many of whom enter science-related professions.
