The Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting program is an international competition open to screenwriters who have not earned more than $5,000 writing for film or television. The New Voices Fellowship Program is a capacity-building and leadership development grant program that assists nonprofit organizations and professionals entering the fields of human rights and international cooperation. Sponsored program areas include foreign policy, international economic policy, peace and security, international human rights, women's rights, racial justice/civil rights, and migrant and refugee rights. At New Voices Fellows are offered financial assistance, training, and other opportunities for personal and professional development. Their host organizations are provided salary-support grants, as well as technical assistance from national experts. The goal of the program is to help both the host organization and the Fellow realize their full potential.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), formerly known as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) supports health services dissertation research small grant undertaken as part of an academic program to qualify for a doctorate. AHRQ will accept applications from students seeking a doctorate in areas relevant to health services research. To qualify for an award the student (Principal Investigator) must be enrolled in an accredited research doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Sc.D., Dr.P.H., Ed.D.) program in health services research, including areas such as social, behavioral, biostatistical, epidemiological, economic, educational, policy, management, medical, nursing, or health sciences, which require a dissertation based on original research. To be eligible, the dissertation must be a major part of the training program and be in an area of interest to AHRQ with demonstrated relevance to the delivery of health care in the United States. All requirements for the doctoral degree, other than the dissertation, must be completed by submission date. The applicant may be either a public or private nonprofit institution that will administer the grant on behalf of the proposed Principal Investigator; alternatively the proposed Principal Investigator may apply as an individual. (1) Chateaubriand Scholarship. These scholarships are offered by the French Government to American Ph.D. candidates who wish to conduct research in France. Research should pertain to any discipline in the Social Sciences or Humanities. It also offers scholarships for research in science and technology to conduct research in a French laboratory. Sufficient proficiency in written and spoken French is required to be able to carry out the proposed research. Scholarships are available for periods of a maximum of 9 months with a stipend of 1,300 Euros per month. Health insurance and round trip ticket are also provided. Deadline: February 15.
(2) Scholarship in French Cinema Studies. The Society for French American Cultural Services and Educational Aid (FACSEA) is offering a Scholarship for Masters or Ph.D. candidates to study French cinema in France.
(3) Assistant in France. Spend seven months in France as a teaching assistant and get a salary.
(4) Intern in France. The French Embassy in association with the French-American Chamber of Commerce offers various types of short-term internships in France.
(5) Franco-American Commission for Educational Exchange The Commission provides grants to French and American students (graduate and post-graduate levels), young professionals, and scholars wishing to expand their educational experience during a year in the host country.

The Academy is a private, non-profit center for the advanced study of culture and the arts, music, law, public policy, finance and economics, historical and literary research. It welcomes younger as well as established scholars, artists, and professionals who wish to engage in independent study in Berlin for an academic semester or, in special cases, for an entire academic year. Fellowships are offered for advanced study at the Hans Arnhold Center, a 40-room villa at Wannsee within easy access by S-Bahn to the Center of Berlin. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are elibible to apply. Fellows are expected to be in residence at the Academy during the entire term of their awarded semester. The Academy offers furnished apartments suitable for individuals and couples, and a very limited number of accommodations for families with children. Benefits include a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare, housing at the Academy and partial board. Stipends range from $3,500 to $5,000 per month.

Application forms are available from the Academy or may be downloaded from the web site above. Candidates need not be German specialists, but the project description should explain how a residency in Berlin will contribute to their further professional development.

The awards are exclusively for American scholars in the arts, culture, humanities and public affairs. Knowledge of German is not a requirement. The fellowship is for post-doctoral level applicants and for those with 5-8 years of experience in arts, cultural activities, criticism or related fields. Fellowships are for one or two semesters, but can be for shorter periods. Benefits include a generous stipend (no specific amount is indicated), a furnished suite at the villa, meals, a work space, staff assistance, and a transportation supplement. Deadline: February 1.

Each year, the Academy awards up to 30 Rome Prize fellowships in the arts and humanities to U.S. graduate students for periods ranging from six months to two years. Each Rome Prize winner is provided with a stipend, meals, a bedroom with private bath, and a study or studio. Winners pursue independent projects, which vary in content and scope. Winners of six-month and eleven-month fellowships receive stipends of $10,500 and $21,000 respectively. The following are the three broad categories of visiting research fellowships at AAS:
(1) Visiting Academic Research Fellowships (deadline January 15) The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) offers visiting academic research fellowships tenable for one to twelve months each year. All awards are for a period of residence to use the AAS library's resources for research and writing. The Society's preeminent collections offer broad research opportunities in American history and culture through the year 1876. The maximum available stipend is $40,000.
(2) Mellon Post-Dissertation Fellowship (deadline October 15). The purpose of the fellowship is to provide the recipient with time and resources to extend research and/or to revise the dissertation for publication. Any topic relevant to the Society's library collections and programmatic scope--that is, American history and culture through 1876--is eligible. Applicants may come from such fields as history, literature, American studies, political science, art history, music history, and others relating to America in the period of the Society's coverage. The twelve-month stipend for this fellowship is $30,000.
(3)Fellowships for Creative and Performing Artists and Writers The AAS is calling for applications for visiting fellowships for historical research by creative and performing artists, writers, film makers, journalists, and other persons whose goals are to produce imaginative, non-formulaic works dealing with pre-twentieth-century American history. Successful applicants are those whose work is for the general public rather than for academic or educational audiences. The Society's goal in sponsoring this program is to multiply and improve the ways in which an understanding of history is communicated to the American people. The stipend will be $1,200, plus an allowance for travel expenses. Applicants are encouraged to rent a room and prepare their meals in the Society's Goddard-Daniels House, an attractive and spacious historic mansion located directly across the street from the AAS library.

The Foundation offers a variety of fellowships and grants to women who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., have demonstrated scholarly excellence, and a proven commitment to the welfare of women and girls through prior civic, community, or professional work. Minority women are strongly encouraged to apply.
(1)American Fellowships support women doctoral candidates completing dissertations and scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave or for preparing completed research for publication. Applicants must be U.S citizens or permanent residents. One-year postdoctoral research leave fellowships, dissertation fellowships, and summer/short-term research publication grants are offered. These fellowships are available with no restrictions as to place of study, field of study, or age of the applicant. The stipend for Postdoctoral Fellowships is $30,000 and for Dissertation Fellowships (except engineering -- see Selected Professions Fellowships) is $20,000. Deadline: November 15.
(2) Selected Professions Fellowships ($5,000 to $12,000) are available for women for the final year of a master's degree program in the fields of architecture, engineering, mathematics/statistics and computer/ information science). Also, fellowships are awarded to women of color historically underrepresented in business administration, law, and medicine. Dissertation Fellowships for doctoral candidates in engineering are also available with stipends of $20,000. Check the website for deadlines as they vary.
(3) International Fellowships are for women from countries other than the United States who wish to pursue advanced study or research in the United States. Stipends are: $18,000 for Masters, $20,000 for Ph.D, and $30,000 for postdoctoral research Upon completion of studies, fellowship recipients must return to their home countries to pursue a professional career. Preference is given to applicants who can verify that they have a definite position to return in their country. Deadline: December 1.
(4) Career Development Grants are for women who are preparing to re-enter the work force, change careers, or advance their current careers. Candidates must be in the early stages of their programs. Special consideration is given to women pursuing degrees in nontraditional fields. Funds are provided for tuition, fees, books, transportation (to/from/at school), and dependent care. Grants range from $2,000 to $8,000. Deadline: December 15.

(2.1) Graduate Student Scholarships Full-time master's or doctoral students in communication sciences and disorders programs demonstrating outstanding academic achievement are eligible to compete for seven $4,000 scholarships.
(2.2) Student With a Disability Scholarship Full-time graduate students with a disability who are enrolled in a communication sciences and disorders program and demonstrate outstanding academic achievement are eligible to compete for a $2,000 to $4,000 scholarship.
(2.3) Minority Student Scholarship Racial/ethnic minority students who are U.S. citizens and who are accepted for graduate study in audiology or speech-language pathology are eligible to compete for a $2,000 to $4,000 scholarship.
(2.4) International Student Scholarship Full-time international/minority graduate students studying communication sciences and disorders in the United States and demonstrating outstanding academic achievement are eligible to compete for a $2,000 to $4,000 scholarship.
(3) Research Grants
(3.1) New Century Scholars Research Grant Scientists with research doctorate within the discipline of communication sciences and disorders are eligible to compete for $10,000 grants to support innovative studies or unmet research needs. (3.2) New Investigator Research Grant New scientists earning their latest degree in communication sciences within the last 5 years are eligible to compete for $5,000 grants to pursue research in audiology or speech-language pathology. Supported in part by Psi Iota Xi National Philanthropic Organization. Grants include optional supplemental funding enhancements provided by ASHA Special Interest Divisions 2, 3, 4, and 13.
(3.3) Research Grant in Speech Science Individuals having received a doctoral degree within the last 5 years who wish to further research activities in the areas of speech communication are eligible to compete for a $4,000 grant supported by the Dennis Klatt Memorial Fund. The competition is held every other year.
(3.4) Student Research Grant in Audiology Master's and doctoral students in communication sciences and disorders desiring to conduct research in audiology are eligible to compete for a $2,000 grant for a proposed 1-year study.
(3.5) Student Research Grant in Early Childhood Language Development Master's and doctoral students in communication sciences and disorders desiring to conduct research in early childhood language development are eligible to compete for a $2,000 grant for a proposed 1-year study.

(5) Elizabeth and Sherman Asche Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Association on American Indian Affairs offers two Elizabeth and Sherman Asche Scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each, to graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a Major in Public Health. Disbursement is made in the amount of $1,500 per semester, with subsequent disbursements requiring a copy of the first semesters' grades and second semester class schedule. This scholarship does not automatically renew. Students are eligible to apply on a yearly basis.

(7) Emilie Hesemeyer Memorial Scholarship The Association on American Indian Affairs offers Emilie Hesemeyer scholarships in the amount of $1,500 with a preference given, but not limited to, students pursuing a Major in Education. Disbursement is made in the amount of $750 per semester, with subsequent disbursements requiring a copy of the first semesters’ grades and second semester class schedule.

Different prizes and awards for history related books or other works ready for publishing and two fellowships are available:
(1)The J. Franklin Jameson Fellowship in American History. It is awarded annually to support significant scholarly research in the collections of the Library of Congress by scholars at an early stage in their careers in history. Ph.D. degree or equivalent required. Applicants must have received this degree within the last five years, and must not have published or had accepted for publication a book-length historical work.
(2)The Fellowship in Aerospace History, supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), annually funds one or more research projects for six months to one year. Proposals of advanced research in history related to all aspects of aerospace, from the earliest human interest in flight to the present, are eligible, including cultural and intellectual history, economic history, history of law and public policy, and history of science, engineering, and management. Summer fellowships are $250/week plus room and board for eight weeks at the Institute. (2) The Annette Kade Graduate Student Fellowship Program, to partner with French and German institutions and permit an exchange of graduate students. (3) Anthropology Internship Program This program offers internships for undergraduates and graduates to work on projects relating to the collections or to the ongoing research interests of curatorial staff in the museum or in the field. The Museum's collections and current research interests include North, South, and Mesoamerican archaeology and ethnology; Asian, African and Pacific ethnology; and Human Biology. In addition to Curatorial Research, internships can be considered in collections management, archives, and conservation. Internships are offered for periods ranging from three months to one year depending on the project. Grants provide monthly stipends for periods of two months to one year. The minimum work requirement for a paid internship is two days per week. (1) The Lewis and Clark Fund for Exploration and Field Research This program encourages exploratory field studies for the collection of specimens and data and to provide the imaginative stimulus that accompanies direct observation. Applications are invited from disciplines with a large dependence on field studies, such as archeology, anthropology, astrobiology and space science, biology, ecology, geography, geology, and paleontology, but grants will not be restricted to these fields. Award amounts will depend on travel costs, but will ordinarily be in the range of several hundred dollars up to about $5000. Deadline is June 24.
(2) The John Hope Franklin Dissertation Fellowship. This fellowship is designed to support an African-American Ph.D. candidate in any field of knowledge. Candidates must have completed all course work and examinations preliminary to the doctoral dissertation and be prepared to devote full time for twelve months -with no teaching obligations -to research on their dissertation projects or the writing of their dissertations. The stipend for this fellowship is $25,000 for a twelve-month award period. Deadline is April 1.
(3) Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation: For patient-oriented research in internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. Candidates are expected to have held the M.D., or Ph.D. degree for less than six years. Applicants mus expect to perform their research in the U.S., under the supervision of a scientific adviser. Award: $50,000 for first year, $50,000 for second year. Deadline is Semptember 1.
(4) Franklin Research Grants: Applicants are expected to have a doctorate, or to have published work of doctoral character and quality. Pre-doctoral students are not eligible, but the Society is especially interested in supporting the work of young scholars who have recently received the doctorate. The program is designed to help meet the cost of travel to libraries and archives for research purposes, the purchase of microfilm, and the costs associated with fieldwork or laboratory research expenses. The program does not accept proposals in journalistic writing; for the preparation of textbooks, or teaching aids; or the work of creative and performing artists. Maximum award is $6,000. Deadlines are October 1 and December 1.
(5) Sabbatical Fellowship for the Humanities and Social Sciences: For scholars in the areas of the humanities and social sciences who have been granted a sabbatica/ressearch year, but for whom finantial support from the partent institution is available for only part of the year. The doctoral degree must have been conferred no later than 1996, and no earlier thatn 1981. The maximum award is $40,000. Deadline is October 15.
(6) Phillips Fund Grants: Awarded for research on North American Indian linguistics and ethno-history. Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in linguistics, history, anthropology, and American Indian studies may apply. Award: $3,000. Deadline is March 1.
(7) Library Resident Research Fellowships: Applicants must demonstrate a need to work in the Society's collection for a minimum of one month, and a maximum of three months. The William P. McHugh Memorial Fund provides the McHugh Award, a special grant of $500 given to an ARCE graduate student Fellow from any nation to encourage the study of Egyptian geoarchaeology and prehistory.

(2) National Endowment for the Humanities/ARIT Post-Doctoral Fellowships. ARIT/NEH Fellowships, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, provide longer term support for advanced research in all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history. The fellowship tenures range from four months to a full year. The fellowships for research in Turkey may be held for four to twelve continuous months during 2006 to 2007. Stipends range from $13,335 to $40,000. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents affiliated with U.S. or Canadian institution and have completed formal training in their field of study.
(3) Samuel H. Kress Foundation Graduate Fellowships in Archaeology and the History of Art. Kress/ARIT Graduate Fellowships in Archaeology and the History of Art support dissertation research in the History of Art and Archaeology. Applicants must be degree candidates who have completed all preliminary requirements for the PhD in Art History and/or Archaeology who are enrolled at U.S. or Canadian institutions. The Kress provides up to $15,000, depending on the fellowship tenure (two to twelve months).
(4) Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowships for East European Scholars. Three or four post-doctoral fellowships are available to scholars from the East European and Baltic countries including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Rumania, Estonia, Latvia, or Lituania. Fellowships provide support of up to $11,500 for two to three months of research in any field of the social sciences or humanities to be carried out in Turkey. Fellows may make use of ARIT center facilities to carry out their work.
(5) Bogaziçi University Summer Language Program in Advanced Turkish Language. The ARIT/ Princeton University/BU Program offers scholarship, travel, and stipend to support eight weeks of intensive advanced Turkish language study at Bogaziçi University in Istanbul. (4) Anna C. & Oliver C. Colburn Fellowship. One fellowship, with a stipend of $11,000, will be awarded for the academic year 2006-2007 to an applicant contingent upon his or her acceptance as an incoming Associate Member or Student Associate Member of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. Candidates for the fellowship must apply concurrently to the American School for Associate Membership or Student Associate Membership. Competition is open to United States or Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are at the pre-doctoral stage or who have recently received the Ph.D. Other major fellowships may not be held during the requested tenure of the Colburn award.
(5) Harriet and Leon Pomerance Fellowship. One fellowship carrying a stipend of $4,000 will be awarded for the academic year 2005-2006 to enable a person to work on an individual project of a scholarly nature related to Aegean Bronze Age Archaeology. Preference will be given to candidates whose project requires travel to the Mediterranean for the purpose stated above. Applicants must be residents of the United States or Canada.
(6) The Archaeology of Portugal Fellowship. The Archaeological Institute of America announces that funding is available to support projects pertaining to the archaeology of Portugal. These include, but are not limited to, research projects, colloquia, symposia, publication, research-related travel, or travel to academic meetings for the purpose of presenting papers on the archaeology of Portugal. The typical award is $4,000, though the award may vary based on the merit of the proposal. Portuguese, American, and other international scholars are invited to apply.

(1) ACC Residency Program in Asia. The Asian Cultural Council’s Residency program in Asia assists individual American artists, scholars, and professionals undertaking research, teaching, and creative residencies at cultural and educational institutions in East and Southeast Asia. Projects supported in the ACC Residency Program demonstrate close collaboration in design and execution between the visiting American specialist and the host organization and produce tangible results such as publication, course development, or the creation of new artistic work.
(2) Asian Art and Religion Fellowship Program. The program enables American scholars, specialists, and artists to conduct research and undertake projects in Asia involving the interdisciplinary analysis of religion and the arts.
(3) Ford Foundation Fellowship Program.This program provides support for training, travel, and research in the United States by individuals from Asia engaged in the study, documentation, and preservation of Asian traditional arts. It offers awards in archaeology, art history, conservation, dance ethnology, ethnomusicology, museology, and other disciplines involving traditional Asian culture.
(4) Hong Kong Arts Program.The program provides fellowships to especially promising artists, students, and scholars from Hong Kong for research, study, and creative work in the United States. Some grants are made to individuals from China as well, and limited support is also available for projects sponsored by Hong Kong institutions that involve Hong Kong-United States cultural exchange.
(5) Japan-United States Arts Program. This program offers grants to individuals and institutions in Japan and the United States for exchange activities that encourage the study and understanding of Japanese art and culture.
(6) Mekong Region Fellowship Program. This is a three-year program that assists individual artists and specialists from Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and China’s Yunnan Province in undertaking research, study, and creative projects in the United States and Asia.
(7) Philippines Fellowship Program. This program emphasizes support for artists, scholars, and specialists from the Philippines undertaking research, study, and creative work in the United States. Some grants are also made to Americans pursuing similar activities in the Philippines and to institutions engaged in Philippines-U.S. or Philippines-Asia exchange projects.
(8) Starr Foundation Fellowship Program.
Assistance is provided to artists and arts specialists from Asia for creative research, training, and observation in the United States for periods ranging from one month to one year. Grants are made in the fields of art criticism, crafts, film, museology, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video.
(9) Taiwan Fellowship Program.
This programgrants to artists, scholars, and specialists from Taiwan for research, study, and creative work in the United States. The program also supports American and Asian arts specialists visiting Taiwan to participate in cultural exchange projects organized by local arts institutions.

(1) AAS China and Inner Asia Council (CIAC) Small Grants:The China and Inner Asia Council of the AAS is soliciting applications for awards of up to $2000, contingent on funding from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation. Scholars with special interests in China or Inner Asia are invited to submit proposals. Applicants must be AAS members, but there are no citizenship requirements. Junior and independent scholars, adjunct faculty, and dissertation-level graduate students are especially encouraged to apply.
(2) AAS CIAC-Sponsored Conference::Thanks to funding from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation, the China and Inner Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies is offering a grant of up to $20,000 to support a research conference on China and/or Inner Asia, geared toward the publication of significant new scholarly research. (3) AAS/Korea Foundation, Korean Studies Graduate Scholarship Program:. This program seeks to promote Korean studies and foster young scholars in this field by providing graduate students majoring in Korean studies in North America with scholarships for their coursework and/or research while enrolled at their home institutions. It covers students only through the year that they are advanced to candidacy (not Ph.D. dissertation research or writing grants) and only if they are in residence (not overseas research).
