The Program is open to graduate students who matriculated in any graduate school in New York State, in any discipline, who can demonstrate an interest in public policy and promise as a public policy actor. In the spring semester fellows are full-time graduate students at Rockefeller College with policy related field placements for thirty hours a week from January through June. A $9,000 stipend covers living expenses during the six months. Deadline for application is May 15.

The award is given to the author of the best article based on a dissertation that is published in the most recent volume of JCR. The winner receives $1,000 and an invitation to present the paper at the annual ACR conference in October. Honorable mention awards also may be given ($500 and an invitation to present the paper at the ACR conference). The last issue of each JCR volume is published in March, and Ferber Award judging is usually completed by June 1. Only authors who have published papers in JCR are eligible. Your manuscript must address an interdisciplinary aspect of consumer behavior. To submit a manuscript to JCR and be considered a Ferber candidate upon publication, follow these guidelines:
1. Format your paper according to JCR style. The JCR style sheet appears in the June issue each year.
2. Submit the manuscript with a cover letter that lists the dissertation title, the name of the granting department and university, the name of the principal advisor, and the date the degree was awarded. You must also be able to state that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere and that it is not being considered for publication by another journal.

The fellowship provides a year's support for minority doctoral candidates who are in the final stages of completing their degree. During the fellowship year, Fellows reside within an academic department at the hosting campus, which also provides them with a stipend ($30,000), a research grant, office space, housing assistance, and library privileges at the five colleges. The primary aim of the fellowship is to enable doctoral candidates to complete their degrees before embarking on a full-time academic career. Applications are available online. Five fellowships are available to American college graduates who wish to continue their education in Flanders, Belgium. Three of the fellowships are granted to post-graduate students for study or research at universities, conservatories of music, or art academies in the following fields: art, music, humanities, social and political sciences, law, economics, sciences and medicine. General conditions are: U.S. citizenship; Bachelor's or Master's degree; maximum age thirty-five years old; no other Belgian sources of income. The recipients of the fellowship will receive a monthly stipend of approximately 675 EUR (subject to change), a reimbursement of the tuition fee, health insurance and public liability insurance. There are long-term and short-term post-doctoral research fellowships.
(1) Long-Term Fellowships. The Folger Shakespeare Library offers residential fellowships for periods of six to nine months. Successful candidates will be advanced scholars who have made stantial contributions in their fields and whose research projects are appropriate to the collections of the Folger. Annual stipends range between $30,000 and $45,000. Deadline for application is November 1.
(2) Short-Term Fellowships. Short-term fellowships for periods of one to three months are available to postdoctoral scholars from any country. Awards carry a stipend of $1,900 per month. Applicants should submit four copies of each of the following: an application form, a 1,000-word description of the research project, and a curriculum vitae. The Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) sponsors the Writing Competitions to encourage law students interested in the areas of law that affect foods, drugs, devices, cosmetics, and biotechnology. Winning papers will be considered for publication in the Food and Drug Law Journal. There are two competitions -one for papers with a maximum of 40 pages, and one for papers 41 pages and over. Entrants must be currently enrolled in a J.D. program ata ny of the antion's law schools. First and second prizes are $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. Possible topics include an in-depth analysis of a current issue including a review of relevant case law, legislative history, and other authorities, where agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Product Safety Commission or the Environmental Protection Agency are involved. There are two types of residential fellowship programs:
(I) The Postdoctoral Fellowship is awarded to scholars who hold a Ph.D. degree in a field related to the African and African-American experience. It carries an annual stipend of $35,000 and supports the completion of a research project for one academic year. The Fellow will teach two courses (one per semester) in his or her area of specialization.
(2) The Predoctoral Fellowship is awarded annually to a graduate student of any university who studies aspects of the African and African-American experience. This fellowship, which carries an annual stipend of $18,000, does not come with any teaching obligation, but will require the Fellow to work with the Institute's Director in organizing colloquium, lectures, and other events.
All Fellows receive office space in the Institute, full access to the University's facilities, and opportunities to interact and collaborate with scholars of their respective disciplines within the University.

These Fulbright Programs are institutional awards. Faculty on joint-appointment to one of the colleges and The Graduate School must submit through their home school for a Dept. of Ed. Fulbright, for non-Western European countries (except for flights into Western Europe from the host country for short research searches) through your Dean's office or through your school's Institutional Research office. Faculty on direct appointment to The Graduate School must submit through The Graduate School. The deadline date for final submission to the Dept. of Ed. for faculty is traditionally one week before the November 15th deadline date. Faculty may wish to have their applications reviewed by Dr. Alan Gartner, or Ms. Hilry Fisher.
The Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program application is due one week prior to the final deadline. Students who may want to apply for this program will have to prove that they have a background of "area studies" by either pointing out the relevant "area studies" courses on their transcripts or on their vitae. Area studies are usually defined to include special knowledge of the area or the country where the research is to be done, or in relation to the country, including knowledge of the language, knowledge of the economy, history, or other relevant aspects. Citizens as well as permanent residents are allowed to apply.

U.S. Scholar Programs:
(1) Traditional Scholar Program. This program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Deadline: August 1.
(2) Distinguished Chairs Program. Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Candidates should have a prominent record of scholarly accomplishment. Applicants should submit a letter of interest (about three pages), a curriculum vitae (maximum eight pages) and a sample syllabus (maximum four pages) by the May 1 deadline.
(3) Senior Specialists Program.In order to extend the scope and reach of the traditional program in a new era, the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program has been initiated to provide short-term Fulbright grants of two to six weeks.
(4) New Century Scholars Program. Thirty top academics and professionals collaborate for a year on a topic of global significance. For this year the topic is "Toward Equality: The Global Empowerment of Women." Dealine is mid-December.
(5) Alumni Initiatives Awards Program. The objective of the AIA program is to help translate the individual Fulbright experience into long-term institutional impact. To this end, the program provides small institutional grants to Fulbright alumni to develop innovative projects that will foster institutionally supported linkages and sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships between the Fulbright scholar's home and host institutions. Deadline is mid-February.
(6) International Administrators Program. U.S international education administrators are invited to apply for two- to three-week summer seminars in Germany, Japan or Korea. The seminars are designed to introduce participants to the society, culture and higher education systems of these countries through campus visits, meetings with foreign colleagues and government officials, attendance at cultural events and briefings on education. Deadline is November 1.
(7) German Studies Seminar Program. Three-week seminars on current German society and culture. Participants will examine the political, social and economic institutions of Germany. Each seminar has a specific thematic focus. The program will begin in Berlin and include visits to other cities in eastern and western Germany. Ph.D. candidates who hold full-time teaching appointments and meet other requirements are eligible. Deadline is November 1.

Non U.S. Scholar Programs:

(2) Fulbright Visiting Specialists: Direct Access to the Muslim World. will support 20-25 grants for visits of between two and six weeks by scholars and professionals from abroad to American institutions that desire to enrich understanding and knowledge of Islamic societies and cultures. (3) Scholar-in-Residence Program. This program brings visiting scholars and professionals from abroad to lecture at U.S. colleges and universities for one semester or one academic year. Application Deadline: November 3.
(4) European Union Scholar-in-Residence Program. Grants are available to bring European scholars specializing in EU affairs to U.S. campuses as resident fellows for one term of the academic year. Dealine is November 3.
(5) Occasional Lecturer Program. This program enables Fulbright Visiting Scholars to accept guest lecturing invitations at colleges and universities.

The Fund for Investigative Journalism gives grants, ranging from $500 to $10,000, to reporters working outside the protection and backing of major news organizations.
Grants are limited to journalists seeking pre-publication help for investigative pieces involving corruption, malfeasance, incompetence and societal ills in general as well as for investigative media criticism.
The Robert I. Friedman Award supports the work of a journalist wishing to pursue an international investigative project. In keeping with Robert Friedman's life and work, the award will be given to an investigative project focused outside the United States. Both U.S. and foreign-based reporters are eligible to apply. The grant will be in an amount up to $5,000, depending on the budget of the project.
Book Award. The Fund awards a $25,000 book prize. The award is for a work-in-progress and not for a book that has already been published. Applicants should send a letter describing the project and other information that may be helpful, such as a chapter outline or a sample chapter.
