The Open Society is a private operating and grantmaking foundation created and funded by international philanthropist George Soros. There are many kinds of fellowships available in the following areas:
(1) Community Fellowships. Community Fellowships are awarded to individuals who wish to employ their educational and professional attainments in service to disadvantaged communities in the New York City and Baltimore, Maryland areas.
(2) Medicine as a Profession. The Medicine as a Profession initiative (MAP) seeks to invigorate the principles of professionalism in medicine to advance trust, quality, and integrity in the United States.
(3) Program on Reproductive Health and Rights. This program promotes reproductive freedom as a core element in advancing women’s civil liberties and human rights, and in securing larger social and economic opportunities for women and their families.
(4) U.S. Justice Fund. The U.S. Justice Fund is the cornerstone of OSI's strong commitment to reducing the excessive reliance on punishment and incarceration in the United States, and to promoting fair and equal treatment in all aspects of the U.S. criminal justice system.
(5) OSI-Baltimore. The program seeks to foster debate, empower marginalized groups to help shape and monitor public policy, and strengthen communities and families in the Baltimore, Maryland area through the development of fair, rational, and responsive public systems.
(6) English Language Programs. English Language Programs work at the national level, focusing on teaching English for effective international communication.

The Agency provides several hundred fellowships for graduate studies and research, fellowships for undergraduate studies at universities through the region and awards for specialized, short-term training at educational institutions and training centers in OAS Member and Observer States. Deadlines vary; applicants should contact the administering organization in their home country.

This award is offered on a competitive basis to graduate students of outstanding merit and research potential to cover the difference between the tuition fee for a home graduate student and the full-time fee chargeable to an overseas graduate student for full-time study in the United Kingdom. Students already holding the Ph.D. or equivalent are not eligible. Funds may be used at approximately 90 academic institutions throughout Great Britain and is renewable for second and third years. Deadline id mid-April.
