A nonservice-connected fellowship of $1,500 is awarded annually to a full-time African-American doctoral student at the Graduate Center of The City University of New York. Preference is given to third-level students who have been advanced to candidacy and are engaged in research on social, cultural, or economic issues. Candidates are selected on the basis of academic merit, exceptional academic promise, personal history, and accomplishments. The Galiber Award may not be received for more than two consecutive years of fellowship support. These fellowships support graduate study in any academic discipline or professional field, including the fine and performing arts, for up to two years. Fellowship provides ample maintenance support, and half-tuition at any accredited university in the United States. The fellowship is looking for leaders who can give evidence of creativity, accomplishment, and commitment to the U.S. Constitution; and for whom graduate education is relevant to their long-term career goals. Eligibility requirements include that the applicant is a senior in a bachelor’s program or no more than two years already in a graduate program. The applicant cannot be more than 30 years of age. Phi Beta Kappa fosters and promotes the liberal arts through the Scholarships and Awards:
1. The Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship is awarded annually to young women who wish to study Greek or French language and literature.
2. The Walter J. Jensen Fellowship helps educators and researchers improve the study of French in the U.S., is awared annually for six months of study in France. Deadline is October 1.
3. Sidney Hook Memorial Award. This award recognizes national distinction by a single scholar in each of three endeavors - scholarship, undergraduate teaching, and leadership in the cause of liberal arts education.
4. The Award for Distinguished Service to the Humanities is given to recognized individuals who have made significant contributions in the field of the humanities.
5. The Romanell-PBK Professorship is awarded annually, on a nonrenewable basis, to scholars in the field of philosophy, without restriction to any one school of philosophical thought.
6. The Phi Beta Kappa book awards are given annually in December to outstanding scholarly books that have been published in the United States in the fields of the humanities, the social sciences, the natural sciences and mathematics. There are three awards each carrying a prize of $2,500 which goes to the author.

Well-qualified professionals are needed throughout the world to address population and development issues. The Council's fellowship programs have helped advance the careers of some 2,000 social and biomedical scientists, many of whom have gone on to hold leadership positions in the population field. The work of these fellows has enhanced the Council's key role in shaping population policy and programs fostering research in the reproductive sciences.
(1) Reproductive Biomedicine Postdoctoral Fellowship. Fellowships can begin any time during the year. There are no deadlines for submission of applications. The basic stipend is $36,000 per year for a candidate having just completed a doctoral degree. There are increments commensurate with experience.
(2) Population Studies Resident Fellowship Program. Awards consist of a monthly stipend, travel and accommodation for one professional meeting per annum, transportation expenses to and from New York at the beginning and end of fellowship period, health insurance and a small allowance for books.

The FLW program was established in 1980 for qualified upper level college and graduate students interested in the fields of international relations and development in the non-profit sector.
The program is a yearlong, paid, full-time professional development program. Fellows participate fully in all organizational activities, working with experienced professionals in seeking practical solutions to population-related problems. Applicants must be able to demonstrate leadership qualities, international experiences and perspectives, a good academic record and strong writing and oral skills. Knowledge of a foreign language is a must. Candidates must be interested in a career in public or non-profit service. Applicants must have completed at least two years of college and be between 21 - 25 years old.

This highly competitive fellowship provides to gifted and highly motivated U.S. citizens the opportunity to directly participate in the work of the federal government. Fellows will be assigned as assistants to White House staff members, the Vice President, Cabinet Officers and other government officials within the executive branch. Assignments are intended to give fellows a better understanding of the process of government, but not necessarily to give them experience in their chosen field. Fellows will normally have completed their educations, and must be well into their careers. In the selection of fellows, primary consideration is given to such factors as special talents, achievements, intellectual ability and evidence of leadership. This program offers postdoctoral fellowships to minorities and women committed to careers in university teaching and research. Appointments will be made to fields in which minorities and women are severely under-represented. Applicants must be U. S. citizens or permanent residents with a Ph.D.; priority is given to African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans, Filipinos, Mexican Americans and Puerto Ricans, and to women in the physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering. The fellowship appointments are for one year. Fellows may apply for renewal and are renewable for a second year only upon demonstration of academic productivity and participation in the Annual Fall Meeting and the Academic Spring Retreat. The fellowship award includes an annual stipend between $33,800 - $35,300, which will increase upon renewal, health benefits, and up to $4,000 per year for research expenses. For awards in Math, Engineering and the Physical Sciences, the stipend will range from $35,500 - $44,000 depending upon experience.

The PMIP program provides a special means of entry into the Federal Service for recipients of graduate degrees who have demonstrated an interest in the management or analysis of public policies and programs. Interns must be citizens of the United States and must show a clear interest in and a commitment to a career in public policy analysis or program management. An individual must have received, or be scheduled to receive, their degree during the current academic year to be nominated.
