Ten $30,000 Kress Conservation Fellowships for one-year internships in advanced conservation in European art at a museum or conservation research facility. Leopold Schepp Foundation Scholarships for Undergraduate and Graduate Education. The Foundation grants individual awards to undergraduate and graduate students already enrolled full-time at accredited colleges and universities or for seniors en route to graduate school.
While the foundation does not specify a particular course of study, it places special emphasis on the character of the individual, academic excellence, and financial need.
The Foundation also grants annually a small number of fellowship awards for independent study and research, usually post-doctoral, based on the recommendation of a recognized institution. The fellowships are intended to encourage research that will improve the general welfare of mankind. Because funds for such grants are limited, however, interested persons should inquire as to the availability of fellowships in their chosen field of study. The application deadline is in November.

The residency program assists scholars and professionals whose research on the black experience can benefit from extended access to the Center's resources. Fellowships funded by the Center will allow recipients to spend six months or a year in residence with access to resources at the Schomburg Center and other centers of The New York Public Library.
Fellowships are awarded for continuous periods of six or twelve months at the Schomburg Center with maximum stipends of $25,000 for six months and $50,000 for twelve months. Fellows must devote full time to their research projects. They are expected to be in continuous residence at the Schomburg Center and to participate in the intellectual life of the Program. The course covers the historical period circa 1900-the present dealing with the major changes and developments in British society and culture. The Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship is awarded alternately in the fields of Greek and French. Both fields are broadly interpreted--the Fellowship may be used for the study of Greek language, literature, history or archaeology, or the study of any aspect of French language or literature. Candidates must be unmarried women between 25 and 35 years of age who have demonstrated their ability to carry on original research. They must hold the doctorate or have fulfilled all the requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation, and they must be planning to devote full-time work to research during the Fellowship year.
The award is made annually and has a stipend of $20,000.00
Eligibility is not restricted to members of Phi Beta Kappa. There is no citizenship restriction.

The Smithsonian Institution offers fellowships and internships for research and study in fields which are actively pursued by the museums and research organizations of the Institution. (1) Postdoctoral Fellowships are offered to scholars who have held the degree or equivalent for less than seven years. Senior Fellowships are offered to scholars who have held the degree or equivalent for seven years or more. The term is 3 to 12 months. Both fellowships offer a stipend of $30,000* per year plus allowances.
* Earth and Planetary Sciences Senior and Postdoctoral stipends are $40,000 per year.
(2) Predoctoral Fellowships are offered to doctoral candidates who have completed preliminary course work and examinations. Candidates must have the approval of their universities to conduct doctoral research at the Smithsonian Institution. The term is 3 to 12 months. The stipend is $17,000 per year plus allowances.
(3) Graduate Student Fellowships are offered to stu-dents formally enrolled in a graduate program of study, who have completed at least one semester, and not yet have been advanced to candidacy if in a Ph.D. Program. Applicants must submit a proposal for research in a discipline, which is pursued at the Smithsonian. The term is 10 weeks; the stipend is $3,700.
Smithsonian Institution Latino Studies Fellowship Program. Deadline: January 15.
This program offers awards to US Latino/a predoctoral students and postdoctoral or senior scholars to pursue research related to Latino history, art, and culture using Smithsonian resources. Fellowship appointments are for up to twelve months with the opportunity to spend up to a third of the time in the field but not at the home institution. Predoctoral fellowships offer a stipend of $17,000 per year plus allowances and postdoctoral and senior offer a stipend of $30,000 plus allowances.
Smithsonian Institution Molecular Evolution Fellowship Program. Deadline: January 15.
The Smithsonian Postdoctoral Fellowship in Molecular Evolution is offered to support research at the Smithsonian Institution. The Smithsonian's molecular research facilities are located at National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) in the Washington, D.C. area, and at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in the Republic of Panama. Applicants must propose to conduct research in-residence for a period of 12 to 24 months. Applicants must have completed or be near completion of the Ph.D. Recipients who have not completed the Ph.D. at the time of application must provide proof of completion of the degree before the fellowship begins.
Minority Internship Program. Deadlines: February 1 (for Summer and Fall). October 15 (for Spring)
This program offers internships to increase participation of U.S. minority groups who are underrepresented in Smithsonian scholarly programs, in the disciplines of research conducted at the Institution, and in the museum field.
This program is designed to provide undergraduate and beginning graduate students the opportunity to learn more about the Smithsonian and the students academic fields through direct experience in research or museum-related internship projects under the supervision of research and professional staff members at the Institution's many museums, research institutes and offices. Internships are full-time (40 hours per week), ten week appointments during the summer, fall, or spring. Stipend awards are $400 per week, with additional travel allowances offered in some cases.

Appointments are available for currently enrolled advanced Native American graduate students who are formally or informally related to a Native American community. Visiting Students pursue independent research in association with Smithsonian staff. These fellowships support basic research relevant to education in the broadest sense.
(1) Major Research Grants: Responds to research projects requiring more than $40,000 in grant support. Applicants should hold doctoral degrees, and be affiliated with a college or university, a research facility, or a cultural institution. The Foundation does not grant funds to maintain organizations or infrastructures of educational research.
(2) Small Research Grants:The Foundation's Small Research Grants Program supports short-term research projects (two years or less) that require no more than $40,000 to complete.
(3) Dissertation Fellowship Program: Supports individuals whose dissertations show potential for bringing fresh and constructive perspectives to the history, theory, or practice of formal or informal education anywhere in the world. Graduate study may be in any area, as long as the dissertation topic is related to education. Deadline is usually mid-October. Applicants must be candidates for the doctoral degree at a graduate school in the United States. These fellowships are not intended to finance data collection or the completion of doctoral coursework, but rather to support the final analysis of the research topic and the writing of the dissertation. For this reason, all applicants must document that they will have completed all pre-dissertation requirements by June 1 of the year in which the fellowship is awarded, and must provide a clear and specific plan for completing the dissertation within a one or two-year time frame.

The Center typically offers six to eight external fellowships each year.
Faculty fellowships are awarded across the spectrum of academic ranks (assistant, associate and full professor) as well as to independent scholars. Applicants with Ph.Ds awarded on or before September 2001 are eligible for the 2004-2005 competition. Senior fellowships are for established scholars who are more than ten years beyond receipt of the Ph.D.
Junior fellowships are for scholars who will be at least three years beyond receipt of the Ph.D. and generally no more than ten.
