The program includes one-year internships in Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Burkina Faso and Mexico. Visions in Action is a nonsectarian, nonpolitical organization dedicated to providing volunteer opportunities in urban Africa with nonprofit development organizations. Applications are invited for Fellowships of between two and six months, tenable in the period:
May 2005 - September 2007. No limitation will be placed on the area of research within the Humanities.
Most Fellowships are honorary, but limited support towards expenses is available to a small number of candidates.
Fellowships offered of between 2and 6 months. No limitation is placed on the area of research within the Humanities, but some emphasis is given to issues in Medical Ethics, Business Ethics, and Environmental Ethics. Most fellowships are honorary, but a small number of stipends is available to a maximum of 500 pounds per person. Deadline: December 1. Please write for more information.
All Fellows are allocated a study room within the Institute. Fellows hold one or two seminars during their tenure, and submit a report on their research at the end of their Fellowship. No regular teaching is required. It is expected that Fellows will be in residence throughout the tenure of their Fellowship. The Institute will be pleased to help with finding suitable accommodation in Edinburgh. The Institute is near the University library (from which books may be borrowed) and within easy reach of the National Library of Scotland, the Central City Library, the National Galleries and Museums, the Library of the Society of Antiquaries in Scotland, the Library of The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and the National Archives of Scotland. All completed applications must be returned to the Director before 1st December 2004
