Anthony DePalma
Americas correspondent for The New York Times. He has been bureau chief
for The Times in Mexico City and Toronto and has covered cross-border
issues in the western hemisphere since 1993. His book Here: A Biography
of the New American Continent is being published in June by Public Affairs
Books, New York.

Professor of Economics and International Affairs Carleton University

Margaret E. Crahan
Dr. Crahan is the Dorothy Epstein Professor at Hunter College
of the City University of New York. From 1982-1994 she was the Henry
R. Luce Professor of Religion, Power and Political Process at Occidental
College and from 1993-94 the Marous Professor at the University of Pittsburgh.
She has served on the board of Directors of the Inter-American Institute
of Human Rights since 1982 and in that capacity has participated in
international missions to Bolivia, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico,
Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. She is the author of some seventy
books and articles.
