Seminars and SymposiaUS-Brazil Relations: 2004 Highlights and Prospects for 2005 William Waack Mauricio Font William Waack is a renowned international reporter for Globo Network (Rede Globo) and the host of the Globo News Special. Globo is the largest Brazilian TV network and one of the world's largest news organizations. William Waack has been a foreign correspondent for 20 years and has covered Germany, Great Britain, Russia and the Middle East. He has reported some of the most important world processes and events in the last decades including: the Cold War, the Iranian Revolution, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of the Soviet Union, and the end of communism in Europe. He has covered eight wars -- six in the Middle East and two in the Balkans. He has been affiliated with Rede Globo since 1996. He has published 4 books and twice won the highest award for Brazilian journalism, ESSO, for his coverage in the first Gulf War (1991) and for his work uncovering of secret archives in Moscow in 1993. Mauricio Font is director of the Bildner Center for Western Hemisphere Studies and professor of sociology at The Graduate Center and Queens College, City University of New York. Professor Font’s publications on Brazil include: Transforming Brazil: A Reform Era in Perspective (Rowman & Littlefield, 2003), Reforming Brazil (Lexington Books, 2004), Coffee, Contention, and Change (Basil Blackwell, 1990), and Brazilian Statism: Rise and Limits (forthcoming). He also edited and introduced Charting a New Course: The Politics of Globalization and Social Transformation (Rowman & Littlefield, 2001), a volume with twenty-six essays by Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
