FACILITIES
Equipment: Standard equipment for research in biochemistry and molecular
biology is maintained at each participating campus. In addition,
central facilities exist at several campuses for molecular
biology and physical biochemistry. These facilities include
instrumentation and support services for DNA synthesis,
peptide synthesis, peptide sequencing and electron microscopy.
Other specialized research equipment includes HPLC systems,
high-field NMR spectrometers, (500 and 600 MHz), X-ray diffractometers,
EPR spectrometers, laser-based lifetime and steady-state
fluorometers, and mass spectrometers.
CUNY is one of the institutional members of the New
York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC). This Center,
located adjacent to City College, houses the largest and
most advanced cluster of high-field research magnets (NMR
equipment) in the United States.
Students and faculty have free access to two Linux run
computer clusters (instructional and research) at the Graduate
Center and to many computational facilities at the senior
colleges.
Library Facilities: Each senior college maintains a library with a wide selection
of scientific journals, with access for CUNY faculty and
students to many online journals. In addition, The
Mina Rees Library
is an integral and vital part of The Graduate Center. The Science,
Industry, and Business Library (SIBL) of the New York Public
Library is also located within the same building as the Graduate
Center. The SIBL research collection comprises 1.5 million
volumes.
