Ruxandra Cristea, piano

The pianist Ruxandra Cristea began her musical studies at the age of five. She attended the “Gh. Dima” Music Academy and the “Transilvania” University of Music in Romania where she received her Bachelor’s degree in piano interpretation with distinction. In 2001 she obtained an artistic diploma at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg and in 2004 a Master’s degree at the Université de Montréal, both in piano interpretation. She has participated in international workshops and summer music festivals at various institutions including the Orford Arts Centre in Canada, the Hindemith Music Centre in Switzerland, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany. During her artistic formation she had the chance to work with well known teachers including André Laplante, James Avery, Tibor Szasz, Edith Fischer, Jorge Pepi, Walter Levin, Tatiana Pikaizen, Lew Naumow, Stela Dragulin, Aurel Niculescu, Ludmila Popisteanu, and Monica Noveanu. Since her debut in 1992, she has appeared in many concerts and recitals in Romania, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Argentina, and Canada. Presently, she is a student in the doctorate program in piano interpretation at the Université de Montréal under the guidance of Paul Stewart.
