Introduction to Brazilian Portuguese For English Speakers

This course will offer an introduction to the language. It is intended for true
beginners. Dynamic and lively class meetings and individual participation will
encourage students to learn the vocabulary, pronunciation, and fundamentals of grammar. In this course, English and Portuguese will be used, with Portuguese becoming increasingly dominant as the course sessions progress.

Introduction to Brazilian Portuguese for Spanish Speakers

This course is open only to speakers of Spanish with no prior knowledge of Portuguese. The course takes advantage of the similarities between Portuguese and Spanish languages and provides an accelerated introduction to the language as it is spoken in Brazil. Dynamic and lively class meetings encouraging individual participation will emphasis pronunciation, structures and vocabulary in a fast-paced format. Classes will be conducted almost entirely in Portuguese.

Chinese Level 1and Level 2

China is the home of the most consistent and homogenous of world cultures. Mandarin Chinese is the national language in which that culture is expressed; it is the common language of China, Taiwan, and the overseas Chinese community. The level 1 course will teach the basic vocabulary and conversational skills needed to communicate with Chinese speakers in business and personal situations. Chinese culture and current events will be part of the class discussion. Level 2 extends the basic skills learned in level 1; adding new conversational subjects, grammatical drills and developing practical "in the field" reading skills.

German Level 1

Arabic Level 1

Learn to read, write, and speak basic Arabic. Conversational skills will be covered and correct pronunciation will be stressed. Vocabulary drills are included. By the end of the course, you should be able to greet someone in Arabic, ask for directions, write a short passage, and read signs posted at airports. This course is designed for students with no previous knowledge of Arabic.

Spanish Level 2

This course is designed for students with a basic knowledge of Spanish who wish to improve their proficiency. Through an emphasis on more advanced grammar and new vocabulary, students will improve their ability to communicate in Spanish. Written, audio, and visual materials will be used to supplement in-class activities and to familiarize students with the great variety of cultures in the Spanish-speaking world.

French Level 1

Introduction to practical French through conversation and reading. Grammar will be introduced through everyday situations, dialogues for travelers, and contemporary French newspapers and magazine articles. The instructor will provide individual assistance and monitor each student's progress. No previous knowledge of French necessary.
