Caitlin
Cahill is an assistant professor at the University
of Utah where she teaches community studies. Her
areas of interest include the production of race
and gender in space, collaborative and participatory
research approaches, urban restructuring, community
development, cultural representations, and public
space & art. Caitlin's research has focused on
the everyday lives of young women growing up in New
York City. In her dissertation, she looked at the
relationship between young working class women of
color's identity development, representations, and
urban development. At the center of her study was
a participatory project in which she worked with
a group of six young women to develop a project entitled "Makes
Me Mad: Stereotypes of Young Urban Womyn of Color," a
sticker campaign, and a website (www.fed-up-honeys.org).
Currently she is developing a parallel project in
Salt Lake City, UT in order to understand how economic
restructuring is experienced by young people here.
Caitlin is on the editorial staff of the journal
Children,
Youth, and Environments
and Co-Chair of the Participation Network of EDRA.
