SYLVIA RIVERA AWARD IN TRANSGENDER STUDIES WINNERS
 
2006:
Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes, Inc
. was awarded the 2006 Silvia Rivera Award in Transgender Studies for the pamphlet “Providing Transgender-Inclusive Healthcare Services.”  The publication is directed toward healthcare providers and offers information on the barriers transgender clients face in seeking healthcare, guidance on creating a more inclusive health center, a glossary of terminology related to gender and sexuality, as well as historical information and a guide to more resources.  The pamphlet is an internal publication of Planned Parenthood and was distributed electronically and free of charge to Planned Parenthood centers around the country.

2005:
Sally Hines is a Research Fellow in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds, UK. She has published a number of journal articles and book chapters on transgender practices of identity and intimacy, and is currently revising her thesis for the publication of a research monograph, which is entitled ‘(Trans)Forming Gender: Transgender Practices of Identity, Intimacy and Care‘.  She was awarded the Sylvia Rivera award for her article ' “I am a Feminist but…”: Transgender Men, Women and Feminism’, which was published in Reger, J. (ed.) (2005) Different Wavelengths: Studies of the Contemporary Women's Movement, New York and London: Routledge. It examines the relationship between gender diversity and feminist theory and activism, and argues for stronger links between feminism and transgender.

2004:
Jamison Green’s
book Becoming A Visible Man (Vanderbilt University Press, 2004) has been awarded the Sylvia Rivera Prize for 2004.  Jamison Green, 56, is a writer and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area.  His pioneering work on transgender and transsexual health, safety, and civil rights has been instrumental in developing the transgender movement and ensuring progressive social and institutional change.  He is a columnist for PlanetOut.com and for American Sexuality Magazine (a publication of the National Sexuality Resource Center, in affiliation with San Francisco State University).  He serves on the boards of the Transgender Law and Policy Institute, Gender Education & Advocacy, the Equality Project, the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association, and the Human Rights Campaign Business Council.  He led FTM International from March 1991 to August 1999.  He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Law at Manchester Metropolitan University (England), and he lectures, consults, and provides training sessions on transgender and transsexual issues at universities, corporations, and governmental organizations around the world.  He can be contacted at http://www.jamisongreen.com/

2003:
Stephen Whittle for Respect and Equality: Transgender and Transexual Rights. Whittle is the Reader of Law at Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as Vice-President of Press For Change, the UK's transgender lobby group. He also co-ordinates the FtM Network. In 2002 he received the Liberty/Justice Human Rights Award for 30 years of campaigning work for transgender rights. He has published widely on transgender law and theory, including his forthcoming book, A Transgender Studies Reader (Taylor Francis).

2002:
Benigno Sifuentes-Juáregui for Transvetism, Masculinity, and Latin American Literature: Genders Share Flesh. Sifuentes-Juáregui describes his recent Palgrave publication as "a detailed analysis of the relation among transvestism, male homosexuality, and gender figurations in contemporary Latin American cultural, social, and literary texts."
