Fellowship News

The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies is pleased to announce that Martin Manalansan has been named the recipient of the Second Annual Martin Duberman Fellowship in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies. The $7,500 prize will help support Manalansan’s research during the 1998-99 academic year.

CLAGS’s Fellowship Committee has named William Beruh and Timothy Heck as the winners of the 1998 Student Paper Awards. The $250 cash prize recognizes the best paper written by a graduate and undergraduate student enrolled in the CUNY system on a theme related to lesbian and gay studies. Beruh’s paper explored the theme of cruising in Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, whereas Heck’s looked at the construction of masculinity in Girodet’s The Sleep of Endymion.
