The
Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies is pleased to announce that Martin Manalansan has been
named the recipient of the Second Annual Martin Duberman Fellowship in Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, and Transgender Studies. The $7,500 prize will help support Manalansans
research during the 1998-99 academic year.
CLAGSs Fellowship Committee has named William Beruh and Timothy Heck
as the winners of the 1998 Student Paper Awards. The $250 cash prize recognizes the best
paper written by a graduate and undergraduate student enrolled in the CUNY system on a
theme related to lesbian and gay studies. Beruhs paper explored the theme of
cruising in Whitmans Leaves of Grass, whereas Hecks looked at the
construction of masculinity in Girodets The Sleep of Endymion.
