The Criminal Justice Program ranked eighth in the country for the scholarly achievement of its faculty, according to the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. Further, in the “broad” category of humanities, the Graduate Center was fourth after Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. The rankings take into account scholarly publications, honors and awards and grants.
The research was conducted by Academic Analytics and an overview of the findings were reported in the January 12, 2007 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education.
The Doctoral Program in Criminal Justice offers interdisciplinary education in the fields of criminal justice, criminology, and forensic science. It combines theory, empirical research, and normative analysis. Through a well-integrated core curriculum, students are rigorously trained in social science methods, research design, statistics, and information retrieval. They are also given firm grounding in criminological theory, criminal law, criminal procedure, organizational behavior, public policy analysis, and the psychology of criminal justice.
The Doctoral Program in Criminal Justice is offered under the aegis of The CUNY Graduate Center, which awards all of the CUNY doctoral degrees, and enrolls approximately 4,000 doctoral students in 32 fields of the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. The professors who teach with the Criminal Justice Doctoral Program come from a variety of CUNY campuses, adding to the Doctoral Program's interdisciplinary focus.
