William Gottdiener received his doctorate in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research in 2000 and afterwards he completed a two-year National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) postdoctoral fellowship in substance abuse research that was jointly run under the auspices of the National Development and Research Institutes, Inc. and the Medical Health and Research Association of New York City, Inc. His postdoctoral training was interdisciplinary and included students and perspectives in psychology, anthropology, sociology, criminology, and public health among other disciplines. The training also emphasized quantitative and qualitative research methods. His research is focused on the psychology and treatment of substance use disorders. Since beginning his tenure track position at John Jay College he has published four peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters. He has also obtained continuous NIDA funding for his research including an R03 grant. He was recently appointed acting director of the Addiction Studies Program in the psychology department. Finally, he recently became president-elect of the Psychoanalytic Research Society of the Division on Psychoanalysis of the American Psychological Association. |
