Taking Business Courses at Baruch

All CUNY Baccalaureate Students pursuing Areas of Concentration in: Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Management, Computer Science/Computer Information Systems, and Public Administration:

Baruch College requires that students who want to take Business courses meet both the specific course pre-requisites as listed in the catalog and pre-Zicklin requirements (formerly known as “junior-status”) before registering for a specific course. Pre-Zicklin requirements are defined as met by having completed the following courses or their equivalents:

  • ENG 2100 Writing I
  • Math through Calculus (one of the following): MTH 2205 Applied Calculus II, MTH 2207 Applied Calculus and Matrix Applications, or MTH 2610 Calculus I
  • BUS 1000 Introduction to Business (waived if student has taken 2 courses in business already)
  • ECO 1001 Micro-Economics and ECO 1002 Macro-Economics
  • ACC 2101 Principles of Accounting
  • CIS 2200 Introduction to Information Systems and Technologies (formerly CIS 1357)
  • LAW 1101 Fundamentals of Business Law
  • STA 2000 Business Statistics I
  • Either ENG 2150 Writing II or COM 1010 Speech Communication

Students must also have completed a minimum of 45 credits with an overall minimum GPA of 2.25 and an average GPA of 2.25 or higher in these eight pre-Business courses.

In addition, in order to register, you must follow these steps:

If Baruch is not your home college but you plan to take courses there, follow the instructions for registering via e-permit. Once the request has been approved by your home college, registration materials from Baruch will be sent to you with an appointment. You will also need to turn in a Baruch Registration Form (at least three days prior to your registration appointment) to the Baruch Registrar’s office in order to register for the 3000-level Business courses. A Baruch faculty mentor from the appropriate department must sign this form. You should always have your CUNY BA/BS transcript available during the registration period (you can print an unofficial copy from your Advisement Report). Pay for the permit course(s) at your home college.

If your home college is Baruch, you will still need to hand in Form C and have your CUNY BA/BS transcript with you when you register. If you encounter any problems during the registration process, contact the Registrar’s Office at 1.646.312.1150 and/or consult the CUNY BA/BS Campus Coordinator at Baruch, Debra Bick, at 646.312.4552 or Debra_Bick@baruch.cuny.edu.

Accounting at Baruch is no longer available to CUNY BA students even if you meet the pre-Zicklin requirements. Furthermore, since Baruch Business and CIS courses are often so over-subscribed, it is strongly suggested that you have an alternative plan for completing your area courses at other CUNY colleges.
