Yolanda Prieto is a Professor of Sociology at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Her work has focused on the Cuban migration to the United States, with particular attention to the the role of women. She has published extensively on Cuban immigrant women's experiences in Hudson County, New Jersey: their labor force participation, gender role adaptations, generational differences. More recently, Dr. Prieto has studied the role of religion in the migration process and the evolving relationship between Catholics in Cuba and in the diaspora, including the impact of the 1998 Papal visit to Cuba on Cuban Americans. At present, she is writing a book about the origins, development, and transformation of the Cuban community in Union City, New Jersey.
