The transformation
of Argentina from a middle income country with extensive natural resources
and a diverse industrial base in recent years into a nation with escalating
levels of poverty and overwhelming public and private debt has perplexed

in a roundtable composed of academics and financial managers.
Paul Cooney, Department of Economics, Queens College, CUNY,
will explore Argentine economic history to suggest some of the origins of
the present crisis.
Vincent Truglia, Managing Director of Moody's Investment Service
and Joaquin Cottani, Chief Economist, Latin America, Lehman
Brothers will analyze the current status of the economic crisis and possible
outcomes.
Albert Fishlow, Director, Institute for Latin American
Studies, Columbia University and Martin Weinstein, Professor
of Political Science, William Patterson University will explore the impact
of the financial crisis on other Latin American countries.
Uki Goni, Argentinian journalist, will comment on recent
