In this panel Viviane Mahieux (Fordham University) will examine the relationship between Mexican journalism and the avant-garde as presented in the weekly “El universal ilustrado”; Daniel R. Fernández (Lehman College) will discuss Tijuana-born writer, Federico Campbell and his short novel Todo lo de las focas; Oswaldo Zavala (College of Staten Island) will talk about Sergio Pitol’s El arte de la fuga; and Araceli Tinajero (The Graduate Center-City College) will speak about “la frontera” [the frontier] as presented in contemporary Mexican literature.
