Paula Fekete

Paula Fekete is a fourth-year doctoral student in the Physics program, at the Graduated School of the City University of New York. She graduated from the University of Timisoara, Romania, in 1991, receiving a B.S. in Physics in the specialization of Optics and Spectroscopy. Her thesis was in the field of theoretical Physics, titled Physical, Astrophysical and Cosmological Aspects of the CP Violation. Since 1992 she has resided in Brooklyn, NY with her husband Peter. She earned an M.A. in Physics from Hunter College in 1996, completing her Master's thesis, The Hofstadter Butterfly for the Hexagonal Lattice under the supervision of Professor Godfrey Gumbs. Her research in the field was published in collaboration with Professor Gumbs in Physical Review B. and the Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter After earning her M.A., she worked for two years at a small private high school employing a teaching program emphasizing the use of laptop computers in the educational process. On this job, she had the opportunity to plan and teach the Advance Placement Physics B class. This position was followed by a one-year teaching position at a new alternative public high school, where she instructed high school juniors preparing for the Physics Regents Exams. Currently, she also works as an adjunct lecturer in Conceptual Physics within CUNY. In this capacity, she was the recipient of a Presidential Grant for the implementation of innovative lecturing technologies in large format lecture classes in 2001. She also received the Gertrude Wertenbaker award for excellence in teaching in 2001. Her fellowship position is at Walton High School.
