Valerie Imbruce
Valerie Imbruce is a fourth-year doctoral student of plant sciences, at the Graduate School of the City University of New York. She earned a B.A. in environmental science from Binghamton University, for which she conducted botanical research in Ecuador. She is currently working on agricultural transition as a result of globalization; her interdisciplinary dissertation research will focus on the commercial production and distribution of Asian fruits and vegetables for urban, ethnic markets. This research is part of a broader effort of UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to understand the cultural and biological diversity of New York City. Her research will be conducted in New York City, southern Florida and selected countries in Central America and tropical Asia. She has worked in many aspects of agriculture, from an organic farm near her home in New York to the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute in Rome, Italy. She is fellow at DeWitt Clinton High School.
