Graduate Program in Linguistics at the City University of New York

CUNY Linguistics Colloquium

The CUNY Linguistics Colloquium is a series of biweekly lectures on any topic of linguistic inquiry given by specialists in their fields. The talks, held on alternate Thursday afternoons starting at 4:15 p.m., are keyed to a broad audience of linguistics students and faculty, always featuring an introduction in which their specific subject matter is situated in the context of linguistic research in general, outlining the background of the specific proposals advanced and thereby allowing non-specialists to maximally benefit as well.

Colloquia take place in room 6417 of the Graduate Center and last approximately one hour, with a question-and-answer session tagged on at the end, followed by an informal reception in the Linguistics Lounge on the 7th floor. After the reception, the department will take the speaker our for dinner at a restaurant near the Graduate Center. Both the reception and the dinner are excellent opportunities for students and faculty alike to discuss their ideas with the Colloquium speaker. Students are therefore strongly encouraged to take part in these events; as an added incentive, the department will cover the first $10 of each student's dinner expenses.
