Myra Jehlen is Board of Governors Professor of Literature at Rutgers
University. She teaches and writes on topics in American and Comparative
Literature, especially problems in the relations of history and
literature.
Among her writings are American Incarnation: The Nation and
the Continent and Papers of the Empire in the first
volume of the Cambridge Literary History of the United States. In
1997, along with Michael Warner, she published The English Literatures
of America, 1550-1800, a collection of texts that, read
along with introductions and supporting materials, refelcts and
forwards recentrevisions of the field of early American literature.
One of the revisions this work features most prominently is the
recognition that the culture of early America evolved
transatlantically.
